Excellent | | Arokh from Brisbane, Australia says (17/Aug/2003): | Basically, this game rules. But i'll start at the beginning.
The game Legacy Of Kain : Soul Reaver is superb in many ways. It's graphics are scond to none, using an interestingly difficult engine that stops loading in the game. The world of Nosgoth, which is the world you play in, is enormous, challenging and does not require any time to load different parts of it. This aspect alone would have been hard to produce, but there is more.
The actual gameplay is unbelieveable. It incorporates both spiritual fantasy and vampiric monstrosity. As Raziel, an ex-vampyre turned into a spiritual devourer, or "Reaver Of Souls", you travel around Nosgoth killing vampires by either impaling them with spikes or setting their carcasses alight on bonfires and torches. But apart from the killing, there are spells Raziel can learn to help him beat the game, and new skills he can steal from the souls of his younger, but much bigger, brothers. He can glide using his broken wings, climb up walls, swim, move obstacles that are much bigger and heavier than himself, and switch between realms.
The Material realm is the "Real World", where everything is normal, or as normal as can be, and the Spiritual realm is the same thing, except much more twisted and complex. There are monsters in both realms for Raziel to conquest over, so your never bored. In the Spiritual realm, time does not pass, and nothing has weight. Water itself is as light as air.
Apart from the spectacular effects, it is as much a fighting game as it is a thinking game. There are unnumerable puzzles for Raziel to solve, and countless ways of solving them.
It is well worth its rating.
