WOW Arcady,Comical and Graphically amazing, and thats just the box4829

miles bentley from Salisbury,England says (20/Dec/2001):
When I first slammed this game into my dreamcast, I thought it was a slow boring shoot em up with Great graphics. But as I got more into the game, Completing missions, learning to dodge and dive the opponents gun fire I came to realise that this is a great shoot em up. Eneyone who owns a dreamcast must buy this game NOW!!!!

It aint no Quake3 or Unreal Tournament !6092

"krog" from Derby, England, UK. says (2/Mar/2002):
Yet another shoot em up which draws on the success of the legendary Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament formats. However Outtrigger fails to hit the mark on several counts. Initially you are given the impression that this is a fresh approach to the genre with its mission based structure, but this soon becomes tedious and you resort back to what this type of game is all about, Deathmatch ! This mode is very disappointing due to lack of weaponry, opponents and small environments. If you want a first person shooter with longevity then stick with Quake 3 and its online play. Dont dismiss Outtrigger. Just dont pay full price for it !

An alternative to the rude arenas of QuakeIII and Unreal players7502

Rich Frangiamore from Auburn University, AL says (27/May/2002):
Outtrigger was developed by the legendary AM2 team at Sega, known for such arcade legends as Daytona USA. Notice I say "arcade", because that's what it was.. an arcade game. AM2 brings it home in style, heating up your Dreamcast to its full potential.
One of the most complained about characteristics of the game is the small size of the maps. Those who are used to terrains that remind one of a national park (Halo) will not appreciate the purpose: fast-paced, non-stop, arcade action. That's what Outtrigger is all about.

Don't believe any review written by a QuakeIII or Unreal player. Those are different games, with a different appeal. Not as gloomy, bloody (none at all; oh well), or evil, this title will probably never appeal to those who perfer more evil, bloody games. Nothing against Quake3, of course, it's a wonderful game. But probably the least known thing about online play with Outtrigger is that people on its servers are actually >>friendly<<. Yes, that's right. No more annoying message-flooding, mother hating, make-me-want-to-destroy-something fools who get their kicks by pissing you off, and ruining your game. One thing I always got out of Quake was how furious it would leave me after playing online. Not with the servers of SegaNet... a high quality gaming experience is guaranteed (with your $10/month subscription, of course).

In other words, to dispell rumors:
-There is not a lack of weapons. The total arsenal comprises of roughly 8 weapons in 3 categories. You choose which one from each category you'd like when you edit your character. New weapons await as you play the game.
-The maps are fine. There are several sizes, all of which will satisfy ANY type of versus play desired.
-The graphics and audio are marvelous, with textures for every surface imaginable, and footsteps that change with the surface you run on.
-Playing with the controller is easy. The most sensible configuration is D1, which places aiming on the analog thumb pad, movement on the four buttons, fire on R, jump on L, and weapon/view changes on the D-pad. Try it!
-It's not QuakeIII and it's not Unreal. That's the point!!! Don't compare them. Just look at the game and enjoy it.

In summary, Outtrigger is best for those with other people to play versus mode with, or those with SegaNet access. It even supports the rare Broadband Adapter. The gameplay is well done, even if the single player mode doesn't offer a comprehensive campaign of hour long maps. There is alot of strategy in this game, and enough customizable options for your characters and the types of battles to keep you going. Good show!

note: Pick it up for no more than $20... That's what I found a new copy of it for.
Thanks for reading, and email me if you have a polite response...

Neo_reloaded from Philippines says (27/Dec/2002):
Great battling it out with d' different characters...a hard training for the beginners to improve skills!!!!!Why does dreamcast falls for the other gaming companies...they the one who launches first and they lose when other consoles starts to appear. That's unfair!
